Since 1973, Tempest has been a symbol of excellence, unity, and maritime pride. What began as Marino Fest, initiated by the 1973–77 batch of DMET, has today evolved into Asia’s largest marine festival, hosted at Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus (DMET–MERI) a Central University under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.
Over five decades, Tempest has grown beyond a college fest. It has become a platform where engineering innovation, cultural expression, sportsmanship, and lifelong bonds converge, bringing together cadets, alumni, industry leaders, and maritime aspirants under one banner.
Revival of a Legacy
After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tempest 2023 marked a powerful revival. The campus once again echoed with energy, ideas, and celebration. The success of this revival was driven by the relentless efforts of cadets and the unwavering encouragement of alumni and faculty.
The fest reaffirmed a simple truth: Tempest thrives when the DMET–MERI family stands together. It reminded us that alumni are not just spectators of this legacy, they are its strongest pillars.
The Spirit of Tempest
Tempest is built on three core verticals:

CACOPHONY – The Cultural Segment
