Dixit began his professional journey as a marine engineer, navigating the high seas and acquiring invaluable experiences. However, his ambitions led him to the civil services, where he became an IAS officer of the 1986 batch in the Rajasthan Cadre. His innovative approach also extended to agriculture, where he introduced revolutionary technology for large-scale date palm production in Western Rajasthan, transforming the agricultural economy of the region.
