DMETian Noorul Haque: Sailing Beyond Limits, Serving Beyond Self

The DMET Flag Never Drops — Stories That Keep It Flying

There is something about DMET that is difficult to explain to an outsider—but instantly felt by anyone who has lived it.

It’s not just a college.It’s a mindset.A legacy.

We grow up hearing one thing again and again—“DMET ka flag hamesha upar rehna chahiye.”

And somewhere deep within us, that becomes a silent promise.

The Invisible Thread That Never Breaks

What truly sets DMET apart is not just the careers we build, but the junior-senior camaraderie that continues long after we pass out.

Even today, 15 years after passing out, I see it alive—

  • A junior reaching out for Tempest sponsorship

  • Someone asking guidance for placements

  • A cadet messaging for career clarity

And without hesitation, we respond.

Because at DMET, relationships don’t expire with passing out.

They evolve.

“Ab Wo Baat Nahi…” — Or Is It?

We often say this to our juniors—

“Ab wo baat nahi rahi…”

But deep down, I’ve realised something very different.

The next generation is always better than the last.

Sharper. Hungrier. More fearless.

And sometimes… they remind us what DMET truly stands for.

One Such Story — Noorul Haque

There are juniors you meet…And then there are juniors who leave an impression that stays for years.

Noorul Haque is one of them.

I still remember—back during Tempest 2013–14, when he reached out for sponsorship. Even in that brief interaction, there was something different about him.

Clarity. Confidence. Intent.

And today…When I see him in uniform as a DySP in Bihar Police, I feel one thing—

Pride. Pure pride.

From Court to Command — A Journey of Grit

Noorul wasn’t just another cadet.

  • Roll No: 7063 | 2011 Entry

  • A sportsman at heart — JCC / CC / SCC

  • College Basketball Captain

  • Regular in Calcutta Basketball Leagues

And in his very first year, he achieved what most only dream of—

👉 Victor Ludorum Cup — Best Athlete of the Year

But more than medals, what stood out was leadership.

He wasn’t just playing—He was building.

  • Actively organizing Tempest

  • Leading the sports vertical “Chakravyuh”

This was DMET in action.

Noorul's DMET Journey in Action

The Sea, The Shift, The Decision

After passing out in 2015, Noorul followed the classic DMET path—

  • Joined Anglo Eastern (LPG Fleet)

  • Sailed for 6 years

  • Cleared Class 2 CoC

A stable, successful maritime career.

A life most would continue without question.

But then came a moment that changed everything—

COVID. Isolation. Reflection.

While quarantined at the Taj in Delhi, those 10 days of solitude became something else.

A turning point.

He made a decision that most people only think about—

👉 To leave certainty… and chase purpose.

The Leap of Faith

With limited attempts left for UPSC, and years already invested in sailing, the odds were not in his favor.

But then again…DMET teaches you something very early—

“Comfort is the enemy of growth.”

  • Appeared for UPSC Mains (2023 & 2024)

  • Simultaneously prepared for BPSC

And then came the breakthrough—

👉 AIR 15 in 68th BPSC

From the decks of a ship…To the command of law and order.

Excellence, Once Again

At the Bihar Police Academy, he didn’t just pass—

He excelled.

🏆 Chief Minister’s Pistol — Overall Best Probationer🏆 DGP’s Sword — Best Probationer (Outdoor)

And multiple other recognitions.

Because excellence isn’t situational.It’s a habit.

The Man Behind the Achievements

Behind every achievement lies gratitude.

Noorul acknowledges—

  • His basketball coach, Sumit Sir

  • Seniors like Rahul Sir, Lalit Sir, Joshua Sir, Vaibhav Khanna Sir

  • And his mentor Jaish Sir during his civil services journey

That’s DMET again.

We don’t rise alone. We rise together.

A Message That Defines Everything

His words to juniors say it all—

“Never be risk-averse.Everything in the universe is achievable to a hand that reaches out.”

Why Stories Like This Matter

Because Noorul’s journey is not just his story.

It’s a reminder—

  • That reinvention is always possible

  • That discipline translates across fields

  • That DMET is not a profession—it’s a foundation

And most importantly—

👉 That the flag we talk about… is still flying high.

Not because of what we did.But because of what the next generation continues to do.

Closing Thought

As seniors, we often think we are carrying forward a legacy.

But sometimes…It’s the juniors who carry it further than we ever imagined.

And when they do—

They don’t just make themselves proud. They make all of us proud to be called DMETians. ⚓
