1st Mariners Cricket Match: A Celebration of Cricket, Camaraderie and the Mariners’ Spirit

The sea connects people in a way that few professions can.

Mariners may sail on different vessels, work with different organisations, belong to different generations and follow different professional paths, but there remains a unique bond that brings the maritime fraternity together wherever they meet.

On 6 September 2026, DMET Club brought that spirit to the ground with the 1st Mariners Cricket Match, Mariners Get Together 2026, held at The Box Zone, Sector 11, Noida.

What began as a friendly cricket match between the Engine and Deck teams became much more than a sporting event. It was an evening filled with cricket, conversations, laughter, networking, friendships, photographs, food, memories and, most importantly, the spirit of the maritime fraternity.

More Than Just a Cricket Match

The 1st Mariners Cricket Match was organised with the objective of bringing Mariners together outside their usual professional environment and creating an opportunity for them to connect through sport and fellowship.

The event featured:

• 10 Overs Per Side

• Tennis Ball Cricket

• Turf Ground

• Engine vs Deck

• 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

• The Box Zone, Sector 11, Noida

While the cricket provided the excitement, the larger purpose of the gathering was to create a platform where senior Mariners, young professionals, cadets, shore-based professionals and members of the maritime community could meet, interact and celebrate their shared connection to the sea. The enthusiasm and participation demonstrated that the maritime fraternity extends well beyond ships and workplaces.

Engine vs Deck: A Friendly Rivalry

The Engine and Deck departments have always shared a unique relationship onboard a vessel. Their responsibilities may be different, their working environments may be different and their operational challenges may vary, but the successful operation of a ship depends on both departments working together.

The cricket match transformed that professional relationship into a friendly sporting rivalry.

For a few hours, the focus shifted away from ship operations, machinery, cargo, navigation, schedules and watches.

The question was simply:

Engine or Deck?

The competitive spirit made the match exciting, but the true success of the evening was visible beyond the scoreboard.

The conversations between innings, the cheering from the sidelines, photographs, introductions and post-match interactions became an equally important part of the event.

The match brought out the competitive spirit of both teams while strengthening the bond that connects them as Mariners.

Chief Guest: Jaspreet Singh, Mariner Jassi

One of the highlights of the evening was the presence of our Chief Guest, Jaspreet Singh, popularly known as Mariner Jassi. With his connection to the maritime world and his journey into stand-up comedy, Jaspreet Singh represents the diverse journeys that Mariners undertake both during and after their time at sea.

His presence added a unique dimension to the gathering and brought together two important aspects of the event: the maritime fraternity and the celebration of individual talent and personality. The maritime profession is often associated with ships, ports, watches, long contracts and extended periods away from home. However, behind every Mariner is an individual with unique talents, interests, ambitions and stories.

The presence of Jaspreet Singh, Mariner Jassi, reflected that broader spirit.

Bringing Together Different Generations of Mariners
