There are rare moments in life when the true essence of friendship and duty comes to light, reaffirming lifelong bonds. For me, such a moment arrived on a seemingly ordinary Sunday, when my batchmate Vishal, a renowned DMETian and former BPSC topper, went above and beyond to help my family. Today, I want to share his remarkable story and the spirit of the DMET brotherhood that continues to inspire us all.
The Enduring DMET Brotherhood
Our DMET batch is not just a group of classmates; we are bound together by a unique camaraderie that we fondly call the DMET brotherhood. Even though we don’t meet as often as we’d like, every reunion feels as though time has never passed. Our diverse group includes civil servants—about ten percent of us—as well as individuals who excel as industry torchbearers and corporate high achievers at places like Amazon. As for me, I’m perhaps the only full-time entrepreneur among us, although many of my batchmates have dabbled in entrepreneurship while maintaining successful careers.
Throughout our varied journeys, we’ve always had each other’s backs—whether it was covering for my attendance during college days or even providing financial support when my ventures hit rough patches.
Vishal: A Multifaceted Talent
Among all these incredible individuals, Vishal stands out as a truly remarkable soul. Known for his sharp intellect and striking presence, Vishal is much more than just a top scorer in the BPSC exams—a feat that once brought him significant media attention. He is also a gifted dancer and an exceptional teacher, effortlessly explaining complex concepts in physics and mathematics.
Few can truly appreciate the mental and emotional toll that a decade-long journey of civil service preparation can exact. Yet, Vishal faced every challenge head-on and never lost sight of his dreams. I once jokingly advised him to channel his talents into starting his own institute, convinced that he was born to teach. Instead, he chose a different path—one that has inspired many of the stories I share with my team to motivate them. I am sincerely grateful that he followed his own instincts rather than mine.
A Sunday of Crisis and Compassion
This Sunday (February 23, 2025), a crisis unfolded on a train traveling from Varanasi to Kolkata that would put any parent’s heart to the test. My elderly parents found themselves in a chaotic situation (Mahakumbh Rush, Almost A Stampede Situation) after mistakenly boarding the wrong compartment. A frantic video call revealed that they were unable to reach their designated berth, and I watched in horror as my father’s condition worsened. In that heart-stopping moment, I realised that no amount of money could ever replace the safety and well-being of our loved ones.
Desperate for help, I first contacted Jaish—an IRPS officer stationed near my hometown in Varanasi (6276, Again my batchmate)—but, unfortunately, my message didn’t get through. Despite being posted in Hazipur, Vishal was the next person I reached out to. Without hesitation, he sprang into action. Within a mere 15 minutes, Vishal coordinated mobile assistance and arranged for the railway police to escort my parents to the correct compartment and secure their designated seat. His swift and decisive intervention was nothing short of miraculous. Jaish called just after few minutes, but till then Vishal had done the magic(Jaish also surely would have played part in this for sure) Collector Sahab rocks!
I was also informed that the another DMETian IRPS Officer Surjeet Singh Sir (2008 Passout) was the man behind action on the ground!
The Unspoken Sacrifices
What makes Vishal’s commitment even more profound is a chapter of his life that few of us truly know. Amidst all these years, only a handful of our batchmates are aware that Vishal lost his mother after a long and grueling battle with cancer. Even during that excruciating period—traveling from Mumbai to his home district—Vishal never once allowed his personal grief to hinder his sense of duty. In our many conversations, especially during moments of stress when the DMET group becomes a safe haven for venting and support, we’ve shared not just our struggles but also stories of resilience. Through endless hours of lighthearted banter, we find solace in knowing that even in our darkest moments, we have each other to lean on.
A Tribute to a True Hero
To Vishal and to all the civil servants and DMETians out there, I want to say: we are incredibly proud of you. Your relentless dedication, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to your loved ones and your duty inspire us all. Vishal’s actions on that fateful Sunday serve as a powerful reminder that the true strength of the DMET brotherhood lies in our readiness to help each other, no matter the distance or circumstance.
I am forever indebted to Vishal for his timely intervention—a testament to the fact that real heroes walk among us. The spirit of DMETian for life is alive and well, and it continues to illuminate our paths, guiding us through both triumphs and trials.
May we all carry forward this legacy of compassion and duty, keeping the DMET brotherhood strong for generations to come.
