Guardian Angel and Inspiration
"He was my guardian angel in college and my inspiration. He was my Guru, and now I feel orphaned again. His passing is a very sad and irreparable loss for the maritime industry. My heartfelt condolences to his family members. Rest in peace, Mr. Das."
A Stalwart Educator
"I still remember how nicely he taught us marine electricity. He was always energetic in class and had a commanding voice. He was not just a teacher but an educator, leaving lifelong learning imprints on the students he impacted. God bless his soul and may he rest in peace."
Masterful Administrator
"Mr. Das was a very good administrator and a staunch supporter of everything related to DMET. I vividly recall how skillfully he handled a situation in our fourth year that had escalated to political levels. His tough image disciplined all of us, yet he had a great memory and recognized students years later. His approach, though sometimes criticised, was appropriate to handle students like us."
Innovator and Mentor
"He introduced computers to our curriculum for the first time in 1985, while we were there. His Marine Electricity classes are still vivid in our memories. He gave us two life mantras: 'It is not your aptitude but your attitude which determines your altitude.' He was instrumental in instilling discipline and developing our sports facilities."
Unforgettable Lessons
"I could never forget his class when he taught us the electrical diagram for the emergency generator. After demonstrating how various relays energised and the emergency generator came on load, he asked if, once the power was restored, we could relax. When I innocently answered yes, he corrected me firmly, teaching us the importance of manually stopping the emergency generator and putting it back to auto. This lesson stayed with me throughout my sailing career."
A Man of Sincerity and Hard Work
"Mr. Das was a very sincere person who worked very hard. His era symbolised DMET in many ways. We last met him during our reunion visit to the campus with our families a few years back. He remembered us so well, and we reminisced about our cadetship days. His passing marks the end of an era."
An Era Moved On
"It’s an era that has moved on. Mr. Das symbolised DMET in many ways. So sad to hear of his passing. Deepest condolences. May his soul rest in peace."
A Talented Singer with a Sense of Humour
"He also sang Hemant Kumar songs in our DMET programs. Very nice singer too. Bhootoo da had a fantastic sense of humour. I sailed with him. He was a perpetual smiler and a good-natured guy. Deeply felt condolences to BN Das's family. RIP Bhootoo da."
