For a Fallen Brother: An Emotional Appeal to the DMETian Community

Updated: 5 days ago

Updated On: June 8, 2025 (2100 Hrs) Fund Raise Update (Net 1.68 Lakhs Collected Till Date) 📢 Final Appeal — Let’s Not Stop at ₹1.68 Lakhs

We have received ~₹1.68 Lakhs in additional community support so far.

But there is still a long road ahead.

This isn’t just about financial support — it’s about telling a young widow that she’s not alone. That this brotherhood extends beyond the ship. Beyond death. That we are with her.

Let us help her start over — with dignity, with courage, and with our full support.

To be honest, when I sit down to write these kinds of messages, I always hope it’s the last time.I hope we don’t have to lose another one of our own—too young, too soon. But fate, sometimes, doesn’t listen to our prayers.

Just a few weeks ago, we lost a bright soul.A young marine engineer from the DMET Batch of 2011–2015.A brother. A husband. A son. Late VISHWADEEPAK KUMAR (Roll No. 7156).He was just four years junior to me.

Since the tragic news came in, I, along with the DMECA leadership, have remained in constant touch with his batchmates, working silently behind the scenes, trying to understand—what can we do? How can we support?

💔 His Story — One of Bravery, and Silent Suffering

After returning home from sea, Vishwadeepak began experiencing breathlessness and stopped eating entirely. He had been battling lung cancer since 2022, just months after his marriage.

He was under treatment at TMH Mumbai, but his deteriorating health during transit forced an emergency stop at Kolkata.Despite initial stabilization by TMH Kolkata, the hospital didn’t consider his previous reports and denied admission. He was then rushed to CNCI Kolkata, where he was admitted in critical condition.

But by then...The tumour had already blocked his airway. He couldn’t eat.He couldn’t breathe. He was moved to the ICU.And on May 15, 2025, at 10:15 AM, he breathed his last breath.

🏠 His Family — Shattered, Yet Hopeful

His family now stands at a crossroads—mourning his loss, yet trying to gather the strength to rebuild. Here are the members he left behind:

🙏 What Has Been Done So Far

  • His 2015 batchmates raised ₹5 lakhs within a few days to ensure no obstacle hindered his final rites.

  • We reached out to several companies, requesting a job opportunity for his wife to help her rebuild her life.

  • Yugen Infra's Founder Sheeshram stepped in without hesitation—offering her a job at our Gurgaon office.

  • She has requested a role in Patna for convenience, and we are actively working on the logistics. I personally promise to leave no stone unturned to make whatever is possible.

  • Additionally, Yugen Infra's Founder has promised a job for his younger brother, Banty Kumar, after he completes his studies.

🤝 But We Still Need You

While initial support has been offered, this is a long road. Emotional scars heal slower than physical ones—and financial recovery is even harder.

Our community—the DMETian Brotherhood—is known for standing tall, united. This is one of those times.

Let’s rise to the occasion.Let’s prove again that even in the darkest of nights, our community shines the brightest.

We are not asking for charity. We are asking for solidarity.

Because the truth is—this could have been any of us.

💵 Contribute Now

If you'd like to extend support to the bereaved family, here are the details:

Note:

We are using DMET Club’s payment portal to collect funds. All net proceeds, after deduction of payment portal transaction charges, will be routed to Vishwa’s family's (Wife/Mother) account via DMECA.

Please note that no contributions will be accepted after June 10th for this cause.

🌱 Let’s Build a Support Fund — For Now and the Future

I propose we start a DMET Community Relief Fund to be mobilized in times of urgent need.DMECA can take the lead, and Vishwadeepak’s case can be the first beneficiary.

Because being a DMETian is not just about sailing ships—it’s about anchoring hope, lifting lives, and never abandoning one of our own.

With folded hands,

On behalf of the entire 2015 batch On behalf of the family of Vishwadeepak Kumar On behalf of the silent hopes of his widow

And from the heart of a fellow DMETian—

I request you to come forward.

Let’s give meaning to his sacrifice.Let’s become the wind beneath the wings of his grieving family.

With respect, grief, and hope, Prateek Khanna
