Good Morning, DMETians and Well-wishers,
We are pleased to share a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future for our alma mater — DMECA has officially ordered and received a state-of-the-art Bio-Gas Waste Disposal Plant for the Kolkata Campus of our beloved institute.
The equipment has now been successfully delivered to the site, and the foundation work is currently underway, marking the beginning of a new chapter in green infrastructure for the campus.
🌱 Why This Matters
The implementation of a Bio-Gas Waste Disposal Plant is not just about managing waste — it's about turning waste into energy. This initiative will allow the campus to:
Convert biodegradable waste into usable bio-gas, reducing dependency on conventional fuels
Promote a clean and hygienic environment for students, faculty, and residents
Instill sustainable practices among the cadets and the next generation of marine engineers
Serve as a live demonstration model for green energy, aligned with IMO’s decarbonisation goals and India’s net-zero vision
🛠️ What's Next?
With foundation work in progress, we look forward to the plant being fully operational in the coming months. This will be a working model of circular economy principles in action — a proud symbol of what alumni collaboration and responsible leadership can achieve.
🤝 Join the Mission. Empower DMECA.
This initiative has been made possible through the dedicated efforts and financial support of DMECA and well-wishing alumni. But this is just the beginning.
We call upon every DMETian across the globe — from the engine rooms of ships to boardrooms ashore — to join hands with DMECA and take ownership of our shared legacy.
Whether it's through contributions, volunteering, or simply staying connected — your involvement can create lasting impact.
Let’s empower DMECA, and in doing so, empower the future of maritime education in India.

Here’s the best part: DMECA Lifetime Membership is currently just ₹5,000. However, this token amount will increase significantly starting September.
“DMECA is not just an association; it is our responsibility, our bridge to give back, and our chance to grow stronger together. Become a part of this legacy before the next tide rolls in.”
Why Every DMETian Should Be a Member of DMECA
The sea may have given us our discipline, but it is DMECA that gives us our direction.
The DMET-MERI Ex-Cadets Association (DMECA) is not just an alumni body — it's a living, breathing network of mariners who carry the spirit of DMET in every part of the world. Whether you're at sea or ashore, junior or senior, retired or still sailing, DMECA is your anchor to the past and compass to the future.
Here’s why DMECA membership is a must for every DMETian:
1. Preserve and Strengthen Our Legacy
DMET (now IMU Kolkata) has shaped some of the finest marine professionals in the world. DMECA works to preserve the heritage and values of our institution while adapting to the evolving maritime industry. By becoming a member, you help protect and promote the legacy we all take pride in.
2. Support the Cadets, Shape the Future
From funding infrastructure upgrades to mentoring the next generation of cadets, DMECA actively supports both the Kolkata and Mumbai campuses. Your membership helps ensure that the standards we once benefited from are not only maintained but enhanced for future mariners.
3. Network That Stretches Across Oceans
Whether you’re looking for a new job, exploring a business partnership, or simply seeking guidance, the DMECA network spans thousands of DMETians across continents and sectors. It’s a ready-made ecosystem of trust, loyalty, and shared experiences that no LinkedIn connection can replicate.
4. Be Part of Meaningful Change
From sustainability projects like the newly commissioned Bio-Gas Waste Disposal Plant to mental health awareness, career support, and community initiatives — DMECA is leading real change. As a member, you don’t just watch from the sidelines — you get to shape the agenda.
