The Foundation Day of the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET) is not just a date on the calendar, it is a celebration of legacy, discipline, excellence, and brotherhood that spans generations.

This year’s DMET Foundation Day was organised with great pride and purpose by the Association of Ex‑Cadets of D.M.E.T. (AECDMET), reaffirming the deep emotional and professional bond that DMETians share with their alma mater.
A Celebration Rooted in Legacy
From its inception, DMET has stood as a pillar of marine engineering excellence in India, shaping officers who have gone on to lead ships, organisations, and institutions across the globe. The Foundation Day event reflected this legacy, bringing together DMETians from the 1968 batch to the 2022 batch, under one roof—united by shared values, memories, and respect for the institution that defined their journey.
The event began on a warm and respectful note, setting the tone for a day filled with nostalgia, pride, and gratitude. The presence of senior-most alumni alongside young graduates symbolised the unbroken chain of mentorship and inspiration that DMET represents.
Strong Support from DMETians Through Sponsorship

One of the most powerful highlights of the Foundation Day celebration was the overwhelming support shown by DMETians through event sponsorship. Renowned maritime organisations and institutions—founded, led, or strongly supported by DMET alumni came forward to sponsor the event, showcasing their commitment towards preserving and strengthening the DMET legacy.

The sponsors featured in the event reflect the vast footprint of DMETians across the maritime industry, spanning ship management, classification societies, maritime education, technical services, and marine solutions. Their support was not merely financial it was symbolic of gratitude, responsibility, and the desire to give back to the institution that shaped their professional foundations.
This collective sponsorship stands as a clear message: DMETians never forget their roots.
Alumni Presence Across Generations

The Foundation Day was graced by an extraordinary gathering of alumni, representing over five decades of DMET history. Distinguished alumni from batches 1968, 1969, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1985–1990, 1993–1997, 2001–2007, 2008–2011, 2012–2016, 2017–2018, and 2022 attended the celebration.

In total, 63 alumni registrations amounting to 98 attendees confirmed their presence for the College Day Dinner, making it a truly grand alumni gathering. The participation of senior DMETians such as Pralay K Bhattacharya (1968 batch) and many stalwarts from the early decades added immense value and inspiration to the event.

The interaction between senior alumni and current cadets created moments of learning, storytelling,
and reflection, where experiences of sailing life, leadership, and professional evolution were shared with honesty and pride.
Cadets’ Performances: A Tribute to Alumni

A special highlight of the celebration was the cultural performances by the current DMET cadets. The cadets performed songs dedicated to the alumni, expressing gratitude, respect, and admiration for those who paved the way before them.

These performances were not just entertainment—they were heartfelt tributes. Weeks of preparation went into rehearsals, coordination, and execution, reflecting the discipline and sincerity instilled in DMET cadets. The applause and emotional response from alumni clearly showed how deeply these gestures were appreciated.
Meticulous Planning and Collective Effort

The success of the DMET Foundation Day celebration was the result of detailed planning and teamwork by AECDMET members, volunteers, and cadets. From coordination with alumni, managing registrations, organising the dinner, handling sponsorship branding, to cultural preparations—every aspect was executed with professionalism and dedication.
Such events reinforce the idea that DMET is not just an institution—it is a lifelong fraternity.
Strengthening the Bond Between Past and Present

The DMET Foundation Day served as a powerful reminder that while times change, values remain constant. Discipline, integrity, competence, and camaraderie continue to define a DMETian—whether from the 1960s or the 2020s.

By bringing together alumni, cadets, sponsors, and organisers, AECDMET successfully transformed the Foundation Day into a platform of connection, celebration, and renewed commitment towards DMET’s future.
Conclusion

The DMET Foundation Day organised by AECDMET was more than an event—it was a statement. A statement that DMETians stand together. A statement that legacy matters. A statement that gratitude, unity, and giving back define the true spirit of DMET.
As the evening concluded with shared meals, conversations, and memories, one thing was clear: DMET lives on—not just in buildings or classrooms, but in the hearts of every DMETian.
Long live the DMET legacy.
