"As future marine engineers, we’re trained to operate complex systems and navigate vast oceans — but what about navigating ideas, risks, and opportunities that could shape the future of our industry?"
While our curriculum prepares us for operational excellence, the evolving maritime world demands more adaptability, innovation, and entrepreneurial vision. The upcoming 42nd session of DMET Samvaad seeks to explore this very shift, by delving into the world of maritime startups and the bold minds behind them.
The Startup Wave in Shipping
India's maritime sector is ripe for transformation. In a space traditionally dominated by legacy operations, a new wave of maritime entrepreneurs is emerging and at the forefront is Shri Prashant Gyan sir (Roll no. - 5298, DMET class of 1999-2003), CEO and Co-founder of ShipSmith Group Services Pvt. Ltd.
ShipSmith Group is not just another ship repair company. Under Mr.Gyan's leadership, it has grown into a globally recognized venture operating across eight international offices, having serviced 80+ vessels in over 60 destinations, and setting new benchmarks in service delivery, quality, and client trust.

How to identify service gaps in the maritime sector
What it takes to build credibility and scale globally
The mindset needed to innovate within a legacy-driven industry
And how Indian maritime professionals can lead the next wave of global service excellence
