An Appeal to My Fellow DMETians – Let’s Reunite at the DMECA Meet 2025

Dear All, Pranams,
I hope and pray that you and your families are keeping well.
A few days ago, a message about the upcoming DMECA Meet in Gurgaon reached our groups. The very moment I read it, my heart was filled with joy. Why? Because it instantly took me back to 21st December 2024, when the first DMECA meet happened in Gurgaon. That day was nothing short of magical an opportunity to relive our college days, reconnect with brothers, seniors and juniors and feel the bond of DMET once again.
This year, the event is scheduled at just the right time for me, as my sign-off was supposed to be on 31st August 2025. Unfortunately, my relief has been delayed and my new expected date of sign-off is around 2nd or 3rd October 2025. Yet, I remain hopeful to attend because my superintendent himself is a DMETian and also a close friend of the organisers.
Why Attend? Heart vs. Mind
Most of the time, we hesitate to attend such events. Our mind asks logical questions:
What will I gain?
What benefit will it bring?
How will it change my life?
But if we listen to our heart, different questions arise:
Will I feel happy?
Will I feel good?
Will I feel the joy of friendship and brotherhood again?
When I asked myself these questions last year, the answer was a resounding YES. The event was a reminder of who we are and what we can achieve when we see our seniors and juniors excelling in different walks of life.
A Revelation
Personally, last year’s DMECA meet was more than just joy, it was a revelation. Being a Chief Engineer suddenly felt like the smallest of roles in that hall. Because I had the chance to meet entrepreneurs, DG officials, influencers, presidents and secretaries of various associations, all our very own seniors making waves in the maritime sector.
That day gave me courage. It made me believe that I too belong in that circle, that I too have the potential to rise high and contribute meaningfully.
A Chance for a Batch Reunion
On a lighter note, such events are also the best escape from the headache of organising a separate batch reunion. Think about it: when everything from the venue to food, drinks to entertainment is being arranged, why not simply join in, contribute our share and treat it as our reunion too?
That’s why I appeal to all my batchmates to consider this year’s DMECA meet in Gurgaon on 5th October 2025 as our reunion.
Those who attended last year will agree that it was like turning the banquet hall of Radisson into our very own junior hostel quadrangle. The laughter, the conversations and the spirit of brotherhood was all there.
